“Ranger,” she breathed, my name was a prayer on her lips. 

I let her wrist go and reached down to pick her up. My heartbeat pounded in my ears as she kissed me, opening up fully and dipping her tongue into my mouth. She was so warm and sweet. Her little moans vibrated against my tongue making me want her mouth on another part of me. 

I settled us on the couch and watched as she leaned back, threading her fingers through my hair. “I love that you have long hair.” 

“Oh yeah?” I asked before bringing my thumb to her lower lip wondering what it might feel like to run the head of my cock over it. 

Her tongue darted out between her lips and she took my thumb in her mouth, her cheeks hollowed as she sucked. “Mmhmm,” she mused. “It’ll make it easier to keep your head in place when it’s between my legs.”

My cock jolted. I yanked my thumb from her mouth and snagged her bottom lip between my teeth, suckling it with my tongue and lips before letting it go with a pop. When I smacked her ass, she ground her hips into me, another moan slipping out of her mouth. “You won’t have to keep me anywhere, babe. Erased with the heady need we felt for one another and I was thankful for it. This I could do. Watching her eyes trace my body as I unbuckled my belt and undid my jeans. Seeing her in pain had been too much for me to bear. My chest had felt like it was caving in. 

But this. Just the two of us together. This I could do all fucking night. Hell. All day and night. 

Her breathing quickened as her eyes darted to where my fingers slid under the edge of my boxers. “You’re sure?” I asked. 

Those molten eyes looked back up at me. “Yes, I’m sure.”

With her permission, I hooked my thumbs into the band of my boxers and pulled them down. My cock was heavy, pulsing upward as she took me in. 

She swallowed. “I’ve never done this before, Ranger.” Those beautiful eyes I loved so much were wary like I might flee from her admission. What she didn’t know was that I didn’t give a shit about her being experienced. I only wanted her. 

“We’ll take it slow. Whatever you don’t want to do, just tell me, okay?”

She nodded again as I grabbed her hand and sat back down on the couch. 

“Kneel,” I commanded and I watched as she lowered herself to her knees.

“Good girl.” Seeing her kneel between my legs nearly had me seeing stars from how much my dick throbbed. Dark eyelashes fanned over her cheekbones when she looked down at my length.

“Who are you?” came a raspy voice to the side of the pathway. Alora cast her gaze in the direction from where the voice had come, noting the various shapes and heights of the mushrooms standing erect just beside the pathway. 

“I inquired who you are, you daft girl,” seethed the voice with unguarded irritation.

 “Why is everyone so unbearably rude?” Alora had had her fill with ill-mannered faeries and took angry steps until she halted before the mushroom where the tiny creature reclined. She staked her hands onto her hips in umbrage. 

Resting atop the largest brown and white mushroom was a tiny cyan caterpillar puffing out tiny rings of smoke. In one of his many grubby hands rested the mouthpiece of a hookah. He wasn’t wearing any practical clothing, yet there were minuscule sky-blue slippers on ten of his miniature feet. 

“Perhaps you're the rude one, you unwelcomed interloper!” the insect snapped before taking another drag on his instrument.

Of all the ways she’d pictured spending her thirtieth birthday night, alone hadn’t been one of them.

Well, she hadn’t been completely alone actually. At around 2:00 a.m., a noise outside had made her crawl out of bed. She’d shuffled to the sliding doors that opened to a small deck off the back of the cottage. After turning on the floodlight back there, she’d been greeted by a fox. One with the tip of its left ear missing. It had apparently knocked over a pot of mums she had on a low garden table. Oddly, it hadn’t run off when it noticed her watching. Instead, the fox hopped up onto an Adirondack chair and settled into a tight circle, cat-like, on the flowered seat cushion.

Quietly, Claire had opened the door and slipped outside to sit in the other chair. She sat with the fox for about twenty minutes, the September night air cool, but cleansing somehow. When she’d bought the pair of Adirondack chairs, she’d pictured one for the soul mate she was sure to find soon. Sitting there with a wild fox instead seemed silly, but the critter wasn’t half-bad company.

Rubbing her eyes now and focusing back on the ceiling, Claire wondered if that fox was free tonight. Maybe if she kissed him, he’d turn into a prince or something.
