About Unexpected

Recently jilted Josephine Davis wasn’t looking for love…. A chance encounter along the sweltering highway with Atlanta’s own millionaire bachelor changed all that. Devastatingly handsome and full of unexpected talents, William Prescott Harrington, III shows beautiful Josie a life that she could have only dreamed of; his excessive wealth and generosity eventually threatening her very existence. Two star-crossed lovers from polar opposite sides of Atlanta navigate their way through a maze of greed and jealousy desperate for only one thing – each other.

Her heart made a wish. Will her dream become reality or will the nightmare destroy them all?

Excerpt

"Let’s see if he notices.” She smiled to herself.

He was waiting for her at the front entrance, holding the door open. “You are so beautiful J,” he whispered into her ear, palming her back and leading her to the car. She slid into the front seat, feeling the soft leather seat against her bare bottom.

They sped off down the street. Will clicked on the classic jazz that had been playing earlier and put his hand on her knee. The lithe, sinuous sense of swing floated out of a horn in a classic Dave Brubeck song.

“Did you enjoy dinner?”

“Oh, yes,” she said, aware that her breathing was quickening from his touch. He glanced at her as if he knew she was up to something.

“What are you thinking about Josie?”

“Nothing,” she replied, her voice a little higher than she expected. His hand was almost hot on her skin.

He circled just his index finger on her thigh, and she parted her legs ever so slowly. He glanced over at her again and she fidgeted, biting down on her own index finger as she looked out the window. He circled his finger closer and closer to the middle of her thighs. Her breath caught and she blushed, averting his wide-eyed glance.

“Josie? Are you not wearing any panties?” he asked hoarsely.

She hesitated before shyly looking at him, the console of the Porsche illuminating his surprised face.

“Ummm. No. I just took them off before we left…” She quickly looked away embarrassed by her behavior. She hoped he wasn’t thinking she was some slutty tramp from the other side of the tracks. Perhaps she should have thought this through.

He expelled a long breath as he squeezed the top of her thigh with his whole hand. “What are you trying to do to me J? Do you want me to wreck?”

She looked at him with horror bringing her thighs together quickly, trapping his hand in-between them.

“No! I, uh… I thought you would like this. I’m so sorry….”

“I’m kidding Josie,” he said gently.

“Oh….” She started to relax again.

He put both of his hands on the steering wheel, obviously affected by her little game and then let go with one and ran it through his hair. He leaned back in his seat, staring straight ahead at the highway and whispered, “Open up your legs for me.”

About the Book

LOVE IS THE GREATEST RISK OF ALL

After multiple tours of duty, Brandon Forte returns to his hometown on a personal mission: to open a facility for military working dogs like Haydn, a German Shepherd Dog who’s seen his share of combat and loss. It also brings him back to Sophie Kim, a beacon of light in his life . . . and the one woman he can’t have. But Forte’s success means he’s made enemies in high places. Enemies who are now after Sophie . . .

When Forte enlisted and left without saying goodbye, Sophie did her best to move on. But with her first love back in town, looking sexier than ever, she’s constantly reminded of what they could have had. Then after he risks himself for her, Sophie realizes she’ll have to put her life in the hands of the man who broke her heart, knowing the danger -and the sparks between them- could consume them both.

Excerpt

Between one moment and the next, he was right there next to her, kneeling so they were face to face. She let out the air in her lungs in a rush, not sure of what she wanted to do or what he was planning to do. She parted her lips but didn’t say anything, didn’t want to put another question out there for him to address before he answered the one she really wanted to know.

Because she was hoping he was here for her—not his childhood friend—but for the very adult version of her who’d been waiting for him all this time.

Faster than she could react, his lips caught hers. The contact rushed through her in a lightning shot of surprise. Years of bottled-up frustration bubbled up and she leaned into him with a soft gasp.

And then he pulled back and she was left trying to catch her breath.

Slowly, carefully, he slid his arms around her back and under her knees. He cradled her against his chest and tucked her head under his chin. Circled as she was in his embrace, he held her close. He pressed his lips against her hair.

“That was too close yesterday, Sophie.” His voice was low, gruff, and almost cracked with emotion. “The thought of losing you just about killed me.”

Spotlight: Lost In Shadows by Anita DeVito

About the Book

Private security entrepreneur Jeb McCormick is in over his head with his latest client. Not only is the painfully shy woman he’s meant to be protecting a total knock-out, she’s also his former Army buddy’s sister. Helping her find the reason why anyone would ransack her house is demanding enough, but keeping his hands off her is proving to be the real challenge.

Carolina Walker wants a quiet life, thank you very much. She left intrigue and deception behind in Washington D.C., never expecting it to follow her home to Bowling Green, Kentucky. When events happen that can’t be explained away, help arrives in the form of the very attractive and muscular Jebediah McCormick. But as the tension escalates between Jeb and Carolina, so does the danger facing them…

Each book in the Lost series is a standalone, full-length story that can be enjoyed out of order.

Excerpt

Jeb bit into the succulent meat and rolled his eyes back in exaggerated ecstasy. “Mmmmm. Oh Miss Walker. This is good. This is good.”

“I am appalled you doubted me,” Carolina sniffed in mock disdain. “When I tell you something, Mr. McCormick, I expect you to accept it as fact, completely and immediately.”

“Is that so?” He liked the sass in her tone and teased her for more.

“I’m only thinking of you.” She cocked her head and gave him a wide-eyed look full of concern and honesty. “I’m saving you from having to say ‘you were right’ and hearing, of course, the much maligned ‘I told you so.’ I know how such phases can damage a man’s ego.”

“You have only my best interest at heart.”

“Well, of course. It’s clear you need someone to look after you.” Her tone, playful and haughty, ended in a sigh. “I’ll just have to be the one to take you in hand.”

“You think you’re up to the task?” How many times had he flirted over dinner knowing it was nothing but a little fun between consenting adults? This felt different. There wasn’t anything casual about Carolina.

“Absolutely.” She wiggled her eyebrows. “I have resources, my own bag of tricks.”

“Tricks. I like tricks.” Jeb reached for her. “Tell me more.”

About the Author

Anita’s rapid paced storytelling style pulls readers into a parallel universe where mystery, mayhem, murder are the order of the day. Her stories are an addictive diversion, trading the heavy, gray world of real life for a fantastically colorful world where bad is good, and cool is smoking hot.

Raised on America’s Rock Coast in Cleveland, Ohio, Anita was born while the river burned. Music, food and family shaped Anita’s life and provide much of the fodder for her stories. Her love of mysteries and puzzle solving came from her Grandpa John, who introduced Anita to her first detective hero – Nero Wolfe. Food was as central a character in Anita’s life as it was in Nero’s, where Sunday dinner at Nonna’s table was a command performance.

Anita has been writing scorching mysteries and suspense since 2006 with stories ranging on the heat index from a “nice spicy little pepper” to “pass a mop for my forehead, please.” Check out tastes of Anita’s stories and like her on Facebook.  Anita is a member of Sisters in Crime and Mystery Writers of America.

Excerpt: A Harmless Little Plan by Meli Raine

About the Book

Turns out there was a second video from that awful night four years ago. Mine wasn’t the only tape.

Too bad mine wasn’t the worst.

Drew can’t protect me no matter how hard he tries, but the roles are flipped now. I have to help him, but I’m not wired that way. Not anymore. That one night changed me more than anyone knows.

More than anyone could predict.

Three men think they’re above the law. They’re right.

But I’m willing to go beneath the law to make sure they never harm anyone else. Their threats don’t scare me.

When you have nothing left to lose because someone took it all away, you create the most dangerous creature imaginable.

Me.

Game over.

Excerpt

Losing long chunks of time while you’re unconscious normally involves the added benefit of dreams. As someone’s rough hands slip my pants off over my hips, I wake up, my face itchy from rubbing against warm, wet cloth. My nose screams with a strange buzzing that makes me want to scratch all the flesh off and douse it with paint thinner.

All the skin along my inner thighs tightens painfully, as if I expect these hands to shove my legs open and pierce me. All that actually happens is that the black cloth bag stays on my head while my body is stripped of every stitch of clothing. Someone puts me in a skin-tight series of clothes, like a bodice with thick leggings. The searing shame ripples on my skin like an extinction burst.

I can’t control my body’s responses. If I keep reacting, though, I’ll lose energy. Focus. The ability to think and strategize.

All I can do is deaden my emotions. Reduce my reactions.

Go numb.

The less I react, the better. The less I do to draw attention to myself, the less likely I’ll suffer abuse.

I know it’s foolish to hope.

But hope and Drew are all I’ve got.

And Drew’s not here.
