What happens when the stubborn island prince falls for the mysterious stranger with a secret?

Welcome to San Camanez, a humble, peaceful little island in the Puget Sound and home to the McEvoy brothers. Four sexy single fathers—and one childless snack with a beard—who run a brewpub on the beach, raise their kids together, and hope to find love and happiness in the chaos that is life. This is Bennett’s story ...

Single Dad and CFO, Bennett McEvoy, is determined to give his daughters a fun summer despite the money woes plaguing his family business. He needs the brewpub and cabins he owns with his brothers to be more prosperous than ever. Because right now, things are tight. His focus is on profit and sustainability. He doesn’t have time for the mysterious beauty in cabin five. But when her cabin floods, he insists she move into his house, because he absolutely does not want to see her go.

Dr. Justine Brazeau, a renowned cardiothoracic surgeon, made a mistake and killed a patient. Clearly, she’s not cut out to practice medicine. But now, she has no direction or purpose. She’s lost. She’s sad. And she’s lonely. Well, not anymore since she’s living with Bennett, and he’s making it very difficult for her to figure out her future—that doesn’t involve him without a shirt (or pants).

Can Bennett make the money his family business needs this summer, and heal Justine’s guilty heart? Or is she too consumed with her own pain to see that together they are stronger, better, and a lot less broken?

Excerpt

His eyes widened, and a soft sadness entered his heated blue gaze.

“It’s fine,” she dismissed. “I’ve come to terms with it. I also got checked after my ex …”

He nodded, understanding and not making her say the rest.

Then he helped her hop up on his hips and he was inside her in two thunderous heartbeats. How she managed to get so wet and turned on by their last conversation eluded her, but she was. She was slick and ready when he notched himself at her center and slid home. Their collective sighs of relief made her smile as she clung to him and he began to hammer her into the tree.

Nothing about this was conventional, or romantic, or sweet.

But holy hell, was it ever hot.

She’d never had sex anywhere but a bed before, let alone outside, on the side of the road with somewhat of a stranger.

And yet, no part of her—not even the voice of her mother, which sat permanently in the back of her brain criticizing her—told her this was a bad idea. Her mother’s voice would later. It was probably still asleep, that was all.

So since nothing was telling her to stop, and everything was telling her to take, to soak up the dopamine and oxytocin, and find some joy, she tilted her face skyward until her head hit the trunk, allowing his teeth to rake her neck and jaw, for his kisses and his thrusts to push her deeper into euphoria. She smiled at the pink and blue sky as the morning sun shot streaks of light through the clouds. She smiled at how incredible it was to feel joy without guilt and to be with someone who understood what it was like to want to run from joy because they didn’t feel they deserved it.

Bennett’s grunts and groans brought her back to reality, and she tightened her hold around his neck while locking her legs behind his back and tilting her hips. That made him groan, and she followed it with a moan of her own, because now his pubic bone was hitting her clit just right and she could see the edge she wanted to leap from. She ran toward it, met him thrust for thrust as best she could, clawed at his back, and dropped her mouth to his neck and nipped him.

“Christ,” he growled, holding the backs of her thighs and increasing everything: his speed, his effort, and even his vocalization. He was grunting more and louder as he hammered her harder and harder into the tree. If she wasn’t full of endorphins and dopamine the bark might have hurt, but everything—even the pain—felt good. It felt better than good, it felt incredible.

His fingers dug into the backs of her thighs, and his cadence began to wane. He was getting closer. Thank god, because so was she.

About the Author

A Canadian West Coast baby born and raised, Whitley is married to her high school sweetheart, and together they have two beautiful daughters and a fluffy dog. She spends her days making food that gets thrown on the floor, vacuuming Cheerios out from under the couch and making sure that the dog food doesn't end up in the air conditioner. But when nap time comes, and it's not quite wine o'clock, Whitley sits down, avoids the pile of laundry on the couch, and writes.

A lover of all things decadent; wine, cheese, chocolate and spicy erotic romance, Whitley brings the humorous side of sex, the ridiculous side of relationships and the suspense of everyday life into her stories. With single dads, firefighters, Navy SEALs, mommy wars, body issues, threesomes, bondage and role-playing, Whitley’s books have all the funny and fabulously filthy words you could hope for.

Once you enter their world, there is no escape…in this gripping and undeniably chilling thriller from Emmy-award winning journalist Linda Hurtado Bond.

As a crime reporter for a Tampa TV news station, Mari Alvarez knows when an investigation enters dangerous territory. But with her estranged sister missing and almost no information to go on, Mari can’t trust anyone but herself to find the truth. Now she has just 48 hours to sneak into Cuba undetected, track down her sister…and pray to her orisha that she’s not too late.

But soon they’re caught in a maze of lies, deception, and an undercurrent of the island’s own witchcraft, a sinister Brujería.

Each step pushes Mari and Tony toward a revelation they never saw coming. And as they close in on the horrifying truth, one thing becomes clear…no one will let them leave Cuba alive.

Excerpt

Day One

One a.m.

Forty-seven hours left

Tony’s family farm

We tiptoe through a dimly lit garage. Enrique goes first, Orlando second, his GoPro out and recording. I’m holding on to Orlando’s shirt. Tony walks behind me. We lug our gear with us, so moving isn’t easy.

As we enter the house through the kitchen, I take note of one single light bulb hanging without a cover from the ceiling. It sways as we pass, casting light in waves across the bare cement walls.

Towels cover the windows, even though it’s still dark outside. Enrique pulls back a sheet hanging over an open archway, and as soon as we walk through, nervous energy embraces me. Candles burn in place of lamps, and the glow illuminates eager faces. Almost a dozen of them. “Americano!” A one-armed man, in a faded Nike T-shirt and ripped jeans, pulls Tony in with his stump and slaps him on the back with his good hand. “Americano!”

Tony gives a few pats but pulls away. The Americano seems uncomfortable with raw emotion. Similar greetings swirl around us, like an emotional tornado wanting to suck Tony up.

They must all be relatives of his, crammed into this living room, moving around so quickly, I can’t tell if the floor is shifting or it’s me. The heat and humidity add to the feeling the room sways, like I’m riding waves.

Most of those gathered are older men, but there are two women, a couple of teens, and one three-legged dog, an ugly, multicolored mutt with sad blue eyes.

One of the women draws me into her arms, hugging me; Spanish endearments roll into my ear. My heart swells in reaction to the smell of lavender on the woman’s skin. The scent reminds me of my Abuela Bonita’s Violeta perfume. I squeeze my eyes shut. I will not cry.

My clothes, moist from the five-hour boat ride from America, must be dampening her dry clothes. I’m starting to tremble, so I don’t want to be held tightly. I really need to pee, but I’m ashamed to ask, because Tony is busy being washed around in this tsunami of a family reunion. Orlando is busy recording. All of that is more important than my needs.

Tony hasn’t seen these family members since he left Cuba as a baby. Twenty-eight years ago. It hits me—he, too, has lost family, if not to murder or kidnapping, to separation by both water and politics.

The first time his mother invited me to dinner at her house in Tampa a month ago, Tony didn’t eat, because he was too busy caring for his ninety-year-old grandfather. Watching him feed the older man, stroking his hair, helping him to bed, stirred something in me.

His grandfather must have meant a lot to the owners of this house, too, because a painting of a younger version of him hangs on the living room wall. He’d been a dissident, and because of a few rallies against Fidel Castro, he’d been arrested and imprisoned. When he finally made it to America, his physical and mental state had been damaged beyond repair. Tony became his caretaker, a constant reminder, he told me, of Cuban suppression, imprisonment, and torture.

Tony’s temporal artery pulses. He didn’t come to Cuba only to help me; he came for the revenge against those who wronged his family. And to save those he could.

We stare at each other, no words needed. His conflicted emotions weigh heavy in my chest. My heart aches. It literally hurts. For him. For me. For us.

Excerpt

I plunk myself on my suitcase and give in to despair. Sobs pour from my chest. I’m the worst sister of all time. Tiffany is never going to forgive me. It’s not as if this is the first time I’ve flaked on her. The truth is, since Guy offered me the job, I haven’t been there for her at all. I wouldn’t forgive me either.

I’m crying so hard, I don’t even register the sound of a plane until it lands in the water nearby. I watch as it slows and turns, then glides to the far side of the dock. It’s bright yellow and a little rickety. In my normal life, I’d never step foot on that thing, but it’s my only chance.

I stand, load up my arms, and drag my suitcase as I run toward the plane, waving my makeup case at the pilot while the propellers slow to a stop. The door opens, and a tall, built guy in jeans and a white t-shirt hops out.

“Hey! Hi, there!” I holler.

He ignores me in favor of locking the door.

“Hello, Mr. Pilot Man! I need your help!” Mr. Pilot Man? WTF, Paige?

His body stiffens, then he turns to me with an irritated look on his face. Even though he’s wearing aviators, his set jaw is making it clear that he’s annoyed. Why am I so annoying when I panic?

I stop right in front of him, panting. “Hi! Sorry. I need to get to Azure Island right away.” Pant. Pant. How embarrassing. Chadwicks don’t pant. Especially not in front of insanely hot men.

He sniffs, then says, “All done for the day. Check back with me tomorrow. Or better yet, check with someone else.” Looking me up and down, he adds, “You look high-maintenance. I don’t do high-maintenance.”

Wow. What a jerk. “First of all, the last thing I am is high-maintenance. And second, I’m not asking you to do me. I’m asking you to give me a ride.” Although, my lady bits wouldn’t mind negotiating the type of ride I’d be getting.

He grins down at me, and it’s not a particularly friendly grin at that. There’s something about it that causes a shiver to run down my spine. Pointing to my makeup kit, he says, “What’s in there?”

Lifting my chin, I say, “None of your business.”

“If I’m not mistaken, it’s filled with all sorts of creams and paints and powders you don’t need. Any woman with that much makeup is high-maintenance.”

Well, that was certainly rude. Except for the part about me not needing makeup. “That’s a pretty big assumption. What if there’s no makeup in here at all? Maybe I have a chronic illness and I need dozens of medications every day to keep me alive?”

“Do you?”

“Are you always this nosy?”

“You do realize you need something from me, and not the other way around, right?”

“Fine. It’s makeup,” I say. “But it’s for my job, not because I care about this kind of thing. And I work sixteen hours a day. I don’t have time to be high-maintenance.”

He pockets his keys and turns away from me, calling over his shoulder, “Where do you work? Inside a tanning booth?”

What a jackass! I stand, frozen in place while he strolls toward the parking lot. My brain seems to have seized up and I can’t quite think of a response. He’s arrogant, rude, know-it-all-y, and just plain awful. But he’s also my very last chance. So instead of running up behind him and pushing him into the ocean (which is super tempting at the moment), I leave my suitcase on the dock and follow him like a puppy. “Wait! It’s just a very short ride, I promise you! Are you familiar with Azure Island? It’s only five minutes away. You can still catch almost the whole soccer game!”

“It’s seventeen minutes from here, and I have no interest in football, but I still can’t help you out.” He continues striding toward one of the few remaining vehicles here—a shiny motorcycle.

“Can’t or won’t?”

“Take your pick. The result’s the same.” When he reaches the bike, he mounts it with one quick move, then starts it up. Well, that was ridiculously slick. Why on earth do I find this awful man so attractive? I mean, yes, he’s tall, he’s got thick chestnut brown hair that I want to run my fingers through, and he’s devilishly handsome. Sure, he’s built like a tank. All muscles on his muscles. But still. Rude.

About the Author

Melanie Summers also writes steamy romance as MJ Summers.

Melanie made a name for herself with her debut novel, Break in Two, a contemporary romance that cracked the Top 10 Paid on Amazon in both the UK and Canada, and the top 50 Paid in the USA. Her highly acclaimed Full Hearts Series was picked up by both Piatkus Entice (a division of Hachette UK) and HarperCollins Canada. Her first three books have been translated into Czech and Slovak by EuroMedia. Since 2013, she has written and published three novellas, and eight novels (of which seven have been published). She has sold over a quarter of a million books around the globe.

In her previous life (i.e. before having children), Melanie got her Bachelor of Science from the University of Alberta, then went on to work in the soul-sucking customer service industry for a large cellular network provider that shall remain nameless (unless you write her personally - then she'll dish). On her days off, she took courses and studied to become a Chartered Mediator. That designation landed her a job at the R.C.M.P. as the Alternative Dispute Resolution Coordinator for 'K' Division. Having had enough of mediating arguments between gun-toting police officers, she decided it was much safer to have children so she could continue her study of conflict in a weapon-free environment (and one which doesn't require makeup and/or nylons).

Melanie resides in Edmonton with her husband, three young children, and their adorable but neurotic one-eyed dog. When she's not writing novels, Melanie loves reading (obviously), snuggling up on the couch with her family for movie night (which would not be complete without lots of popcorn and milkshakes), and long walks in the woods near her house. She also spends a lot more time thinking about doing yoga than actually doing yoga, which is why most of her photos are taken 'from above'. She also loves shutting down restaurants with her girlfriends. Well, not literally shutting them down, like calling the health inspector or something--more like just staying until they turn the lights off.

Spotlight: Rescue the Night by Christine DePetrillo

Genre: Small-Town Contemporary Romance

Touching Spencer—even for a millisecond—did things to my body. Wild things I could barely control.

I hate dentists. Except for Dr. Spencer Holland. It’s hard to hate him when he smiles at me, and those adorable crinkles appear at the corners of his big, brown eyes. I’m nervous as hell when he’s aiming sharp dental tools at me, but I’m also imagining how his lips would feel against mine. How his arms would feel wrapped around me. How our bodies would fit together perfectly.

I can’t actually have this sexy dentist though because he’s my brother’s best friend and totally off limits. Actually, Spencer is friends with all of my brothers—all five of them.

Oh, did I forget to mention I have five brothers? Five brothers who circle like me like a pack of protective wolves. Yeah, so anyway . . .

I’ve managed to hide my attraction to Spencer for fourteen years ever since he came to my rescue on my prom night. Lately ignoring my feelings for him, however, is a full-time job. One I’m failing at. Epically.

And there are these . . . moments when I almost believe Spencer wants me too. But that couldn’t be.

Could it?

I’m tired of being underwhelmed by every relationship I attempt with other guys. None of them measure up to Spencer, and it’s time I did something to make him mine.

Just don’t tell my brothers.

Rescue the Night is a small-town, brother's-best-friend, steamy, contemporary romance.

Excerpt

“Do you remember my prom night?” she asked before I could reply to her question. “When you rescued me?”

“Of course.” How could I forget it? I’d been fighting my attraction to her since then.

She put her hands on her hips. “I thought you were going to kiss me that night.”

“I wanted to.” Fuck. My brain had lost control of my mouth.

Vanessa’s right eyebrow rose over an intense hazel eye. “You did?”

“You gave me a chocolate cupcake.” I shrugged, hoping humor would get me back on level ground.

“And that made me kissable?”

My gaze swept over her and that level ground crumpled beneath my feet. “Maybe it was that purple prom dress instead.”

She chuckled then her face grew serious while my heart pounded behind my ribs. What the fuck was happening right now?

“Sometimes . . .” She bit her bottom lip, her brows lowering. “Sometimes I get the feeling there’s something here.” She motioned between the two of us. “But then I ask you to dinner and you say no. Then Hunter suggests I join you two at the baseball game and you say yes. I spend a lot of time confused around you, Dr. Spencer Holland.”

And I spend a lot of time rock hard around you, Vanessa Hartley.

“Why didn’t you kiss me that night?” she asked.

“Guess I chickened out.” And then your brother threatened me.

“And you’re still chicken.”

Something about her calling me chicken got under my skin. I was a grown man. A dental professional even. Technically, a doctor. “I am not.”

“Prove it.” She jutted out her chin, hands still on her hips. “Have dinner with me tomorrow night.”

“Fine.” The word came out harsher than I’d meant it, but she was issuing me a challenge here and I was competitive enough to accept.

Her eyes widened. Good. I loved that I’d surprised her with my reply. If she was going to throw me off balance with all this real talk tonight, I’d volley the same right back to her.

“But I get to choose where we go,” I said.

“Okay.”

“And don’t tell your brothers we’re going on this . . . this  . . .” What was I supposed to call this thing we were doing together? An outing? A meeting? A super dumb decision?

“Date?”

Shit. It was a date, wasn’t it? I was going on a date with Vanessa Hartley.

Spotlght: Failsafe by Jeff Sylvester

Genre: Science Fiction Action Thriller

The world runs on code, and not all code is safe. This is why Anna Flynn has a job.

Matter Manipulation Devices alter the physical world, turning dreams into reality. But some dreams are treacherous, and the streets are filled with mods that manipulate matter in illegal and dangerous ways.

As a seasoned MMD agent, Anna fights back against the criminals who misuse these devices and traffic in illegal mods. When she intervenes in a plot to assassinate one of the world's most respected political leaders, her methods draw the ire of her superiors, and she finds herself under investigation from her own agency.

Increasingly isolated and unsure whom she can trust, Anna works to unravel a conspiracy that would unleash the worst potential of matter manipulation technology on the world.

Excerpt

She had to move. Popping her eyes open, she pushed forward into the room as quickly as she dared. As she entered, she found the security guards taking cover behind various pieces of furniture. Klein—the only man in a security uniform—carried a staff like Anna’s. The two women with him had smaller handheld devices. None of the three had engaged with Ben, wisely taking her advice, and that had probably kept them alive. She hastened her pace, trying not to reveal her presence while still making it to Ben before he reached the bedroom door. She assumed the door was sealed, but also that this wouldn’t pose a problem for Ben.

Indeed, Ben gestured, and the door disassembled. He did have access to manipulate Shah’s home. Anna wasn’t surprised.

He turned to shuffle backwards, focusing on the security guards while retaining the same awkward firing stance. With the direction he was facing, Anna knew when she got close enough, he’d see her regardless of whether her concealment mod was still active or not—light and sound bending only worked at a distance. Intending to startle him, she clicked off the mod and lunged forward, aiming her staff at his gun.

The effect was exactly what she’d hoped for. Ben’s eyes went wide as she materialized out of thin air. He was still registering her sudden appearance when her staff connected with his hand and the gun went flying. At the same time, Klein and the two other security guards bounded out from behind their cover. Ben grunted as he recovered, then crouched down to face Anna, his body tense and ready to strike. She prepared for it, pivoting her weight back into a defensive stance. One attack by him and she’d have him incapacitated. It would all be over.

Except he didn’t attack. As the three guards closed in, his eyes shifted to them in alarm, and he turned and bolted into the master suite.

“Who are you? Stop!” Shah’s panicked voice spilled through the open doorway.

“I’m coming!” Anna dashed in after him, Klein and the other two guards on her heels. She found the councilwoman and her husband backed up against the far wall, Ben advancing on them. She leapt at him and landed a strong blow across his back, crumpling him to the ground. Moving past him, she placed her body in front of the Shahs.

The three security guards lined up across the doorway, blocking any escape. Klein gave Anna a curt nod. Their communications had saved his life, and he knew it—she thought she could count on him not to mention her use of the concealment mod.

Anna looked down at the defeated man with an icy stare. She wanted to pity him, knowing that whatever this had been, he hadn’t been sure of his actions. But people had died, and he’d shot her partner. Empathy has its limits.

“It’s over, Ben.”

“It’s not.” He stared up at her, a sudden calm taking over his features. His voice contained no trace of its former waver. Right now, at this moment, his determination was absolute. “I can do this. And I will.”

He rose to his feet and extended his arm. His hand held something small and dark green. It appeared to be military. A weapon. A bomb.

“No.” The protest escaped Anna’s lips as a whisper. Her staff shook in her hand as she arced it forward toward the explosive, but before it could connect, the world around her vaporized in a brilliant flash. And then there was nothing.
