Spotlight: Invisible by Andrew Grant

An Army veteran and intelligence agent goes undercover as a janitor at a federal courthouse to pursue his own brand of justice in a thriller that’s part John Grisham, part Robert Crais.

As a young man, Paul McGrath rebelled against his pacifist father by becoming a standout Army recruit and the star of his military intelligence unit. But lingering regrets about their relationship make him return home, only to find his father dead, seemingly murdered. When the case ends in a mistrial—after a key piece of evidence disappears—something doesn’t smell right to McGrath. So he puts his arsenal of skills to work to find out just how corrupt the legal system is. And to keep digging, he gets a job at the courthouse. But not as a lawyer or a clerk. . . .

Now McGrath is a janitor. The perfect cover, it gives him security clearance and access to the entire building. No one notices him, but he notices everyone. He notices when witnesses suddenly change their stories. When jury members reverse their votes during deliberation. When armies of corporate attorneys grind down their small-time adversaries with endless tactical shenanigans. While McGrath knows that nothing he discovers can undo his past wrongs or save his father, he finds his new calling brings him something else: the chance to right current wrongs and save others. And by doing so—just maybe—to redeem himself . . . if the powerful and corrupt don’t kill him first.

Spotlight: The Book of Dreams by Nina George

Warm, wise, and magical—the latest novel by the bestselling author of THE LITTLE PARIS BOOKSHOP and THE LITTLE FRENCH BISTRO is an astonishing exploration of the thresholds between life and death

Henri Skinner is a hardened ex-war reporter on the run from his past. On his way to see his son, Sam, for the first time in years, Henri steps into the road without looking and collides with oncoming traffic. He is rushed to a nearby hospital where he floats, comatose, between dreams, reliving the fairytales of his childhood and the secrets that made him run away in the first place.

After the accident, Sam—a thirteen-year old synesthete with an IQ of 144 and an appetite for science fiction—waits by his father’s bedside every day. There he meets Eddie Tomlin, a woman forced to confront her love for Henri after all these years, and twelve-year old Madelyn Zeidler, a coma patient like Henri and the sole survivor of a traffic accident that killed her family. As these four very different individuals fight—for hope, for patience, for life—they are bound together inextricably, facing the ravages of loss and first love side by side.

A revelatory, urgently human story that examines what we consider serious and painful alongside light and whimsy, THE BOOK OF DREAMS is a tender meditation on memory, liminality, and empathy, asking with grace and gravitas what we will truly find meaningful in our lives once we are gone.

Spotlight: The Bride Test by Helen Hoang

From the critically acclaimed author of The Kiss Quotient comes a romantic novel about love that crosses international borders and all boundaries of the heart…

Khai Diep has no feelings. Well, he feels irritation when people move his things or contentment when ledgers balance down to the penny, but not big, important emotions—like grief. And love. He thinks he’s defective. His family knows better—that his autism means he just processes emotions differently. When he steadfastly avoids relationships, his mother takes matters into her own hands and returns to Vietnam to find him the perfect bride.

As a mixed-race girl living in the slums of Ho Chi Minh City, Esme Tran has always felt out of place. When the opportunity arises to come to America and meet a potential husband, she can’t turn it down, thinking this could be the break her family needs. Seducing Khai, however, doesn’t go as planned. Esme’s lessons in love seem to be working…but only on herself. She’s hopelessly smitten with a man who’s convinced he can never return her affection.

With Esme’s time in the United States dwindling, Khai is forced to understand he’s been wrong all along. And there’s more than one way to love.

Adaline Frost’s life officially sucks. Now that her BFF has found her true love, Addy is constantly stuck being the third wheel. On top of that, she hasn’t started her junior project yet, so her advisor pairs her up with what could only be described as the “Reject Breakfast Club.” Instead of the weirdo and the troublemaker, Addy is forced to work with two stoners, a popular girl, and her crush, Austin Reed, the jock who broke her heart.

Austin Reed is sick of being labeled “dumb jock.” If he doesn’t get an A on this project, he can kiss his future goodbye. Austin thought he’d gotten lucky being partners with the very nerdy Adaline Frost, but boy was he wrong. Addy jumps down his throat about his being late and calls him names like “manwhore” on the daily. She has no idea Austin works before and after school in order to help his mom with the bills. Yeah, he’s made mistakes and has had lots of girlfriends, but he doesn’t need Adaline Frost to remind him of it every time he sees her.

Can Austin and Addy ever be a thing?

Excerpt

“I wanna talk to you,” JW murmurs, interrupting my perusal of his family and friends.

Before I can answer, he’s tugging me away from the group and around the corner of Trouble’s office building. I open my mouth to ask what in the world he’s doing, but I’m stopped short when I’m pressed to the brick building and his lips are devouring mine.

All thought escapes me as he attacks my mouth, demanding entry with the rough swipe of his tongue. I open immediately, because I’m weak and have no chance, let alone no desire, to deny him. JW can be very persuasive, especially with his talented tongue.

His arms band around my waist, tugging my chest against his, at the same time my hands lace through his hair, yanking his head closer to me. The man is impossibly addicting. I love his taste, and I love the way he makes me feel. Like I’m the only person in the world. Like I’m special.

His groan is deep and growly when he pulls away and begins trailing his lips over my chin and down my neck. I tilt my head to the side to give him easier access to the tender spot he’s laving.

“You taste so fuckin’ good,” he whispers. “I could live forever just from the sweet taste of you.”

I breathe out a sigh of pleasure. “JW.”

His hand smoothly moves across my butt to the back of my thigh, where he pulls my skirt up to my knee, lifts my leg, and wraps it around his hip. Feeling the hard bulge behind the zipper of his jeans feels so good I shamelessly grind against it. All reason has fled my mind as soon as his lips touched mine again. There’s nothing and no one who can make me feel as good as JW.

“We gotta stop,” I whimper, both hoping he heeds my words and ignores them.

“In a minute,” he mutters, gently biting down on my collar bone.

I bite my lip to keep back the pleasurable cry wanting to slip free. His face moves to my cleavage, where he buries it between my boobs. I toss my head back against the brick wall and nearly come undone when his hips press harder against my center. I’d give almost anything to have him pull up my skirt, slip his cock free, and take us both to heaven as he plunges his hardness inside me.

He lifts his head from my boobs and lays a biting kiss against my lips. “Wanna know something?”

I open my eyes and regard his through a lust-filled gaze. “What?” I gasp.

“I almost killed Remi’s brother.”

The seriousness of his tone says he’s not joking.

“Why?” I ask through a dry throat.

“Because I had no clue who he was. He could have been one of Diego’s men and could have hurt you.”

This is something that crossed my mind as well. It could have been so easy for Kian to hurt me. Yes, he probably would’ve been caught with so many people around, but the damage would’ve already been done. Diego is just the kind of guy who would sacrifice one of his men to do his bidding.

“That wasn’t the only reason though.” He nips my lips once and pulls back, giving me his eyes. Ones that are grim and shining with intent. “He had his hand on you.”

“It was just a simple handshake,” I scoff.

“He had his hand on you and looked like he wanted to do a fuck of a lot more than shake your hand. No man touches what’s mine or looks at you the way he did.”

“I’m not yours,” I retort irritably.

“Like fuck, you aren’t. Every single Goddamn inch of you is mine. Deny it all you want, Gypsy. It won’t change that fact.”
