After one bad relationship too many, Peaches Guidry came to the mountain resort town of Antero, Colorado to start over. Now, she’s manager of a great restaurant and on her way to bigger and better things without anyone complicating her life. The upcoming grand opening of the local brewery’s new pub is the perfect opportunity to introduce more customers to her menu. A partnership with Antero Brewing could bring her business to a whole new level.

But then Colin Brooks strolls into town. Rugged, yet charismatic. The bad boy with a heart of gold—the kind of man she can’t resist.

Her friends at the brewpub, though, are quick to tell her Colin isn’t exactly new in town. He’s the black sheep of Antero and disappeared years ago without a word. Now he’s back and hoping to prove he’s changed, but the welcome they give him is harsher than the winter winds.

She knows she shouldn’t be falling for someone that everyone says can’t be trusted. And getting tangled up in his wild past could ruin the future of everything she’s worked so hard to build… So why can’t they stay away from each other?

Excerpt

She tucked her jeans into her boots and pulled her puffer coat on, along with her heavy wool cap and insulated mittens. The temperature was currently in the teens, about normal for January in the Colorado high country. Fortunately, there wasn’t a lot of walk to clear, and she had a shovel that was the right length for her five-feet-and-a-smidgeon height. She glanced at the “Help Wanted” sign beside the door. With any luck they’d be able to find a new janitor soon, and she wouldn’t have to start her day with a snow shovel. She unlocked the front door, grabbed her shovel, and headed out.

The cold made her catch her breath, but so did the sparkle of sunshine on the newly fallen snow. A cloud of snowflakes was kicked up by the breeze, sending thousands of glittering fragments dancing in front of her. How was it possible to be simultaneously freezing and enchanted?

She had the sidewalk mostly cleared when she heard a step behind her.

“Hi there,” a man’s voice called. “Any chance of getting some coffee this early?”

Peaches turned to see Prince Charming walking toward her. The man was gorgeous. There was no other word for it. Slightly shaggy dark hair and eyes a kind of navy blue, cheeks with a shading of dark beard, cheekbones so sculpted they could probably cut bread. His bright smile dimmed slightly. “I’m sorry. I thought you were a guy.”

Peaches supposed she did look sort of sexless from the back. She was willing to forgive a little gender confusion. “Technically we’re not open for another thirty minutes, but you can come in. It’s way too cold to stand around out here.” Particularly since he wasn’t wearing a hat and his gloves looked a little worn. She could make an exception for him, given the frigid temperature.

As he stepped forward, she realized he wasn’t alone. A small dog huddled close to his boots, probably trying to minimize the area where its paws touched the sidewalk.

“Hi there, sweetheart.” She knelt down, rubbing the dog’s long, red-brown ears as it gazed up at her with soulful eyes, as if to say, Please rescue me, lady.

She couldn’t leave the dog out here, either. It was just a puppy, really. A puppy with a lot of hound in its bloodlines. “Since there isn’t anyone else here, you can bring her in with you. Just keep her close.”

“Thanks,” he said with a grin. “We’ll take you up on the offer.” He held the door for Peaches as she stepped back inside.

She tucked the shovel in an alcove near the doorway, then turned back to His Highness again, extending her hand. “I don’t think we’ve met. I’m Peaches Guidry, the restaurant manager here.”

“Colin Brooks.” He gave her hand a quick shake and stepped back to pull off his jacket and his gloves. The dog shook itself then sat down on the floor, basking in the warmth.

Jillian Quinn
Publication date: April 23rd 2020
Genres: Adult, Comedy, Romance

I, Harley McQueen, do not take Nathan King to be my husband…

I wish I could say no to this wedding. But to save our fathers’ company, my ex-best friend needs a fake bride to bail him out of his latest scandal.

Nate has a reputation with women.
I want the promotion my father has denied me for years.

Together, maybe we can make this fake marriage work.

As long as I don’t fall in love with him…

Again.

Goodreads / Amazon / Bookbub

EXCERPT:

“Hey there, Queen,” Nate says as he approaches me with a wicked smile on his handsome face. “You look happy to see me,” he jokes, wiggling his eyebrows.

My throat closes up at the sight of him. His dark, wavy hair is gelled and styled to perfection. Tall and muscular, he fills out every inch of the navy suit that molds to his body. Women drool over him now, but I know the nerdy boy who had hair that would never stay put. His teeth were such a mess, he wore braces until our sophomore year of high school. And for a few years, I was several inches taller than Nate. But now, when he leans in to hug me, he has to dip down to meet my height.

He towers over me, his masculine scent filling my nostrils as he kisses my cheek. My skin tingles from the unexpected contact. Heat rushes to my face, which is now on fire from his delicate touch. He’s only doing this because he knows I won’t make a scene in front of our families. Nate takes every opportunity he gets to irritate me.

For as much as I hate him, I still miss him. So, when I hug him back it’s a real one. I don’t want to let him go, and the feeling seems to be mutual.

Nate clutches me, his fingers digging into my back. “You look good,” he whispers against the shell of my ear, sending chills down my arms. “I can see the Pilates paid off.”

I gasp at his comment.

Nate laughs in response.

Damn him.

I hate showing that he has any effect on me. More than anything I wish he didn’t have a single ounce of control over me. But he does.

Nate tugs on a strand of my hair, twirling it around his finger. He did this when we were kids because he thought it was funny when I slapped him. My former best friend was an oddball. And now, he’s doing it to torment me. Men like Nate can smell desire on women. He damn well knows I think he’s hot. Nate looks like a walking orgasm in his expensive, silky suit that was tailor-made for him. Everything about him screams sex and money.

“Let’s get started,” my dad says, snapping me back to reality.

I flick Nate’s finger, and he drops his hand to his side. He stares me down with his hauntingly beautiful eyes. When I turn my back to Nate, Stefan is still standing behind the chair he rolled out from the table for me.

Nate sits across from me, though no amount of space is enough because I can practically feel the heat from his gaze rolling down my arms. Our parents get comfortable at the heads of the table, my dad to my left and Richard on the right. Nate’s wingtip hits my heel under the table. I ignore him as he taps me again. A few seconds later, his silky dress sock slides up my calf. I stare across the table at him, and he challenges me with one look.

Do it, his eyes demand. Fight me, Queen.

I hold my breath when his foot grazes my inner thigh. His gaze is pointed down the table at my dad, but I don’t miss the corner of Nate’s mouth lifting slightly into a satisfied smirk. He wants to play with me.

Game on, King.

Lies. Deceit. Espionage. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg here in DC.

EXCERPT:

My mother came out with two shot glasses and a bottle of bourbon. She poured some liquor in each glass and put one in front of me on the coffee table. She downed hers before taking a seat on the couch next to me.

My stomach curled at the thought of mixing bourbon with my upset stomach.

“For some strange reason, Grams wants me to go to Italy. She said you had a secret to share, something that could explain why.”

My mother fidgeted silently, hands in her lap. I braced myself.

“Tom Rudack is not your father.”

I stared at the boring beige rug under my feet. I didn’t know what I expected her to say, but it wasn’t that.

I wrangled my bottom lip between my teeth and winced from the bruising I’d given it earlier.

“Stop biting your lip,” she said.

“Are you saying the man you were married to is not Ray’s and my father?” I raised my eyes to her face.

Chin lifted with an air of defiance I didn’t quite understand, she watched me, her brown eyes partially hidden behind long bangs, unnaturally dark for her age.

“He’s Ray’s father. Not yours.”

I let out a noisy breath and shook my head. “Then who… who is my father?”

“He’s a man from the garden center where I used to work. An Italian who came here on a work visa. He worked a year and went back to Italy.”

My real father was Italian?
