She's just what the doctor ordered... but never knew he needed

U.S. Marshal-turned-Sheriff Taylor James can trace her family back to the original thirteen Marshals appointed by George Washington. She's good at her job, but once they find out she's the local law, she can't get even one of her dates to stay past the appetizers. Her plan? Convince good friend and hot neighbor Dr. Gabriel Adams to give her dating lessons since his dance card is always full.

A survivor of childhood leukemia with no guarantee his remission will last, Gabe lives by two rules: Don't get emotionally involved and don't let his well organized life spiral out of control. When he's given a baby, with his name on her birth certificate, he needs Taylor's help. But dangling dating lessons in exchange? If that will get the dedicated sheriff to lend a helping hand, could it be a bargain worth making?

Excerpt

You can do this.

It was a simple date. She had nothing to hide. Perhaps Bill wouldn’t be intimidated like the others. Scooping a spoonful of chowder, she forced her lips into a smile. “I’m Angel Point’s sheriff.”

His cell rang. “Could you excuse me? I have to take this.”

“Sure.”

He walked to the other end of the restaurant. Waiting for his return, Taylor caught Camille’s curious look, brows raised in question. She shrugged her shoulders then stared out the window at waves ruffled by the persistent, strong, April wind.

From where she sat, she couldn’t see Shipwreck Rock. Down the beach and out of sight, the landmark was as tall as a skyscraper and had earned its name because when the winds were high, like they were today, the jutting rock became a death trap for any boat or ship unable to avoid its hulking presence. If she were a ship, she would lay down money she was about to become the next one to meet its demise.

“I have to go. Forgot there’s an estate sale I told a customer I’d go to this afternoon.”

“What about lunch? You have to eat, right?” As an attempt at humor, her delivery was weak.

Bill wouldn’t meet her gaze. It was clear he’d already decided to cut lunch short. “We could…um, take a rain check?”

Cross date number five off. “Sure.”

“That had to be the shortest date on record, even for you.” Placing a takeout bag between them, Camille joined her at the table.

Taylor dropped her head into her hands. “What am I going to do?”

Publisher: Shelly Hickman⎮2020

Genre: Romantic Comedy

Series: Fortytude, Book Two

Release date: Jun. 10, 2020

Synopsis: Although this is a sequel, it may be heard as a stand-alone novel.

The sequel to Vegas to Varanasi catches up with Anna and Kiran a couple of years after the event that brought the once “ugly duckling” high school acquaintances together. But will their romance continue to flourish in the face of a whole new set of insecurities brought on by middle age?

First, there’s Kiran, who has an unexpected health scare. While his doctors assure no permanent damage has been done, there seems to have been some damage to his personality, as the normally respectful and reserved Kiran begins behaving erratically and overtly. Anna wants to hope that this is temporary, sparked by the visit of Kiran’s womanizing, free-spirited cousin, Seth. But is this just the midlife Kiran surfacing?

Anna has midlife issues of her own. Now forty-eight, she’s navigating the onset of perimenopause and all the delights that come with it, from facial hair to mood swings to body temperature issues. On top of that, her two-year-old granddaughter is starting to show signs of a behavior disorder, bringing with it a whole other level of stress and worry.

Will Anna and Kiran finally find their happily-ever-after? Or end up stuck in a midlife mess in this romantic comedy of accepting change, and “the change”.

I’m a Las Vegas native who received both my Bachelor’s degree in Art and Masters degree in Elementary Education from UNLV. Pre-pandemic, I spent my days teaching computer science to middle schoolers. When we shifted to remote instruction, it was an adventure I don’t care to revisit. My hope is that it won’t still be necessary when school starts in the Fall. I celebrated my 30-year anniversary with my husband in June and we have two grown children. Though I’ve written five novels, my reading preference is usually nonfiction. Watching anything comedic is one of my favorite pastimes. (Netflix’s new series Space Force is my latest love. Check it out.) Oh, and I love musicals! Early this year, I started a YouTube channel that focuses on life topics for women over forty, but I haven’t decided if I’m any good at it.

Spotlight: The Aftermath of Drifting Away by Audrey Beaudoin

The Aftermath of Drifting Away
Audrey Beaudoin
(Fate, #1)
Publication date: July 15th 2020
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

We survived the plane crash.

We survived days on a raft in the middle of the ocean. Right when all hope to get rescued crumbled, we shared a kiss that left me heartbroken―my first and last kiss.

Or so I thought. Because we didn’t die.

My plan is to never see Chris Ross again. To keep hanging out with his sister without crossing his path. Getting my life back together and working on my goals are the only things that matter. I have plans, and they don’t include love.

But then he shows up at my workplace, asking for my friendship. When I learn something that changes everything, I’m determined to stay away and not let myself fall for him.

Too bad he’s persistent. Too bad I can’t stop thinking about the damn kiss. Too bad it’s nice having him around and being his friend.

If things were to change, they could get really complicated…

The Aftermath of Drifting Away is a sweet contemporary forbidden romance. It is the first book in the Fate series that can be read as a stand-alone.

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble

EXCERPT:

“It hurt when I learned you didn’t want to see me at all,” he confesses, and my lips part open. Chris looks up to the sky, squinting. “I thought I’d done something wrong, or…”

He doesn’t finish his sentence. I swallow, ready to ease his doubts. “You didn’t.”

“Really?” As soon as his eyes bore into mine, I know he’s thinking about the kiss.

The kiss I’m trying to forget, that makes me feel both embarrassed and hot.

We already talked about it once, and there’s no way I’m bringing it up again. It’s in the past.

“I want you in my life.”

I nearly choke on my saliva. Chris watches me closely, his calm expression contrasting with the shock on my face. I wasn’t expecting that much sincerity or that sentence alone to come out of his mouth.

That sounds permanent, and I’m not used to that.

I tuck a lock of hair behind my ear, clearing my throat. “As a friend?”

He exhales through his nose. “Yeah. As a friend.”

This is it, then. I smile faintly. “Then we need to get to know―”

I gasp when Chris opens the bag, showing me what’s inside. Sushi. My eyes fly back up to his amused ones. “This is how you get my friendship.”

He chuckles and hands me a pair of chopsticks. I eye hungrily the food, licking my lips. I’m about to take my first bite when I think about something.

“Wait. Did Kate tell you this is my favorite food?”

“She didn’t,” he replies right away, and I believe him. There’s something about Chris that makes you trust him. He looks and sounds genuine. “I think you mentioned it once…you know.”

I frown. “Did I?” What else did I say on the raft that I can’t remember? I shake my head, sparing him a curious glance. “You pay attention.”

Chewing, he blinks in my direction. “What?”

I grin and eat my first roll.

Spotlight: Empire High Untouchables by Ivy Smoak

EH1 EHU Cover (1).jpg

The Untouchables. That’s what everyone calls them. At least, it’s my best friend’s nickname for them. And since she’s the only one that talks to me at my new school, I’ll take her word for it.

The nickname probably comes from the fact that they’re exorbitantly wealthy. Old wealth. The kind that isn’t flaunted around. But you can tell by the way they carry themselves. Or maybe the name just refers to the fact that they’re so beautiful it’s almost hard to look at them.

No matter the reason for their nickname, it’s an ironic one. Because I’ve only been going to this school for a week and I already want to touch.
