Spotlight: Just (Fake) Married by Hailey Shore

Release Date: September 4

Available in Kindle Unlimited

They’re faking forever. What could possibly go wrong?

Ethan

I swore I’d never set foot in Last Hope Gulch again. I traded cowboy boots for scrubs, the family ranch for the operating room—and left behind one infuriating woman: Harmony Calloway. A do-gooder with a megawatt smile, she’s been getting under my skin since we were kids.

Then my dad died and left a will straight out of a soap opera. If the feuding McGraws and Calloways don’t unite in actual matrimony, the ranch gets sold off—and the town that raised us might just go under.

So I’m fake-marrying the one woman who’s always made my blood boil... in every possible way.

Harmony

I’ve spent my whole life dedicated to keeping Last Hope Gulch thriving. Marrying Ethan McGraw, my high school heartbreaker —isn't my idea of a good time. But if it saves the town, I’m willing to fake it with a smile.

The plan is simple: a fake wedding, a fake marriage, and absolutely no real feelings. The only problem? The very inconvenient chemistry we've had since high school and some family secrets that refuse to stay buried.

Between forced proximity, staged kisses, and town gossip hotter than a jalapeño, I am starting to wonder…

What if our fake marriage is the truest thing we’ve ever had?

When the bark definitely IS worse than the bite

A deadly hex is turning my newspaper colleagues’ skin to bark—and it’s up to me to find the magical killer before they strike again.

I thought moving to Ravens Hollow would be simple. One month into my new supernatural life, I figured my biggest challenges would be housebreaking my oversized puppy and writing fluff pieces for the local paper.

Then dark magic hits The Oracle, pulling me straight into an investigation tangled with vindictive sea witches, feuding werewolf packs, and ancient tree sprite magic even the coven can’t crack.

Now I’m chasing clues with Police Chief Whip—an immortal siren cursed with secrets—and Alex, a too-charming lion shifter who knows how to get under my skin. But in a town where everyone hides something and magic always comes at a price, finding the truth could cost me more than I’m ready to lose.

And the vampire trafficking ring that turned me? They haven’t forgotten about me either.

A paranormal cozy mystery featuring a vampire journalist, small-town supernatural politics, magical mayhem, and a slow-burn romance that defies nature itself.

Excerpt

“There’s something else you should know before you leave.”

Something in the chief’s tone made Shawn sink back into his chair. “Sir?”

“The new captain is a woman,” Washington said carefully, clearly bracing for resistance. “Rebecca Schwartz from the Charlotte Fire Department. Goes by Becks, according to her application. She’ll be arriving Thursday next week for an informal meet-and-greet at Mr. Jones & Husband, then coming by on Saturday to meet the volunteers during training before officially starting on Monday.”

Shawn nodded, unfazed by the gender revelation. “A female captain? That’s fine by—“

But the words died in his throat as the full name registered. The folder slipped from his suddenly numb fingers, papers spilling across the floor. Rebecca Schwartz. The name echoed in his head like the aftershock of an explosion.

“Rebecca Schwartz?” he repeated, his voice sounding distant to his own ears.

Washington’s eyebrows rose slightly at Shawn’s reaction. “You know her?”

Know her? Shawn almost laughed at the absurdity of the question. He’d known her as Becca back then—sweet-faced but determined Becca with her infectious laugh and fierce ambition. He’d known the curve of her smile and the scent of her skin. Known her dreams and fears. Known the sound of her voice first thing in the morning and the last thing at night.

Until he hadn’t.

“We trained together,” he said finally, the understatement of the decade. “At the North Carolina Fire Academy. When I knew her, she went by Becca, not Becks.”

Washington frowned, clearly surprised by this information. “I didn’t connect the dots when reviewing your files.” He leaned forward, suddenly concerned. “Is this going to be a problem?”

Shawn bent to gather the scattered papers, grateful for the chance to hide his expression. Memories he’d buried years ago resurfaced in vivid detail—Becca’s fierce determination during training exercises, her infectious laugh during rare moments of downtime, the devastating fury in her eyes the last time they’d spoken.

“I never want to see your face again, Miller. Keep six feet away from me for the rest of our lives.”

He straightened, clutching the reassembled folder, his knuckles white against the manila paper. “No, sir. No problem at all.”

Spotlight: Skating and Fake Dating by Ellie Hall

(Love in Maple Falls, #4)

Publication date: September 3rd 2025

Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance, Sports

Synopsis:

I’m pretending to be his stable girlfriend while he plays my successful boyfriend. But now faking feels a lot like falling.

Bailey
I’m a walking contradiction—professional on the job, a hot mess at home, and working my “I’ve got this” smile until my cheeks ache while hiding my hobbies: making maple butter and finding a husband. With my perfect sister’s recent engagement, I’m desperate to avoid Mom’s pitying looks and matchmaking attempts.

Carson
I used to be hockey’s laid-back southern charmer until a crushing rejection from my high school sweetheart transformed me into a workaholic. When I’m unexpectedly traded to a new team, rumors circulate about whether the gentleman wingman lost his edge. I’ll do whatever it takes to prove them wrong.

Bailey
When our worlds collide after a dessert disaster, we come up with a mutually beneficial solution to our respective woes: a fake relationship. The rules are simple: I get a “successful” boyfriend for family events. He gets a “stable” girlfriend for team image. No feelings, no complications, and a definite expiration date.

Carson
But between posing as a couple at the fall festival, midnight maple butter-making sessions, trying to keep our stories straight, and undeniable chemistry, what started as a convenient lie is beginning to feel inconveniently real. As the clock runs down on our arrangement, we’ll have to decide: walk away when the final buzzer sounds, or take a shot at the love neither of us saw coming.

***

Skating and Fake Dating is a heartwarming hockey romcom featuring Bailey and ‘Bama who are perfect for each other in all the most imperfect ways, plus, small-town charm, family shenanigans, and a guaranteed happily ever after sweeter than homemade maple butter blondies.

Welcome back to Maple Falls—the small town where hockey players fall in love! This is a multi-author series of seven full-length books that could be read as standalones, but we think you’ll enjoy them best in order.

“We always use my grandfather’s syrup and my grandmother’s recipe cards,” she says, nodding toward a wooden box on the counter. “Handwritten. Some of them go back three generations.”

I flip through them carefully, noticing how the paper has yellowed, how different handwritings show the passing of time, of homespun knowledge.

“Do you have a favorite?” I ask.

“The classic maple butter. Well, technically, we start with making maple cream, which is when you boil out any remaining water from pure maple syrup. After it cools, you whip it with butter, resulting in a light, fluffy spread. But in between, exists a careful balance of temperature control because you don’t want it too thin or for it to crystallize. I make other flavors too.”

Listening intently, the room fills with the scents of autumn—apples, cinnamon, maple—and I’m fascinated as this colorful, chaotic woman who hides how scattered she can be behind schedules and planners transforms into a confident and passionate master of the kitchen.

She goes on, lit up by the topic. “For the custom flavors, I put my own spin on the classic, including apple cinnamon—I use apples from the orchard and dehydrate them, then slice them super small. Vanilla bourbon was Pappa’s favorite. Plus, there’s pumpkin spice and blueberry walnut.”

I admire her creativity, dedication, and skill, along with the graceful curve of her neck as she ties her hair back, the pink tint to her full lips, and the low-simmering, sweet but complex chemical reaction of the bubbling syrup and steam as it warms her cheeks.

“You know,” she says, glancing at me while she stirs, “I’ve always dreamed of having the brand go big. That VIP thing you were talking about would be amazing.”

“Why don’t you?”

Her shoulders tense slightly. “For one, there’s the shiny thing I chased instead. You know, my job with you and the team? I needed the stability, the regular paycheck. And hustling specialty foods is hard.”

“But it’s what you love.”

She looks up, meeting my eyes. “It’s a hobby now. It’s best that I accept that.”

Bailey has a little smudge of maple butter on her cheek from when she’d tucked a loose piece of hair behind her ear.

Leaning in, I press my lips to it, to her soft skin. She goes still and then her lips tug with a smile as the sweet taste fills my mouth. Bailey’s eyes meet mine with the answer to my silent question.

Shifting positions, I press my lips to hers. The connection is immediate—there’s so much softness I’m afraid I’ll never surface. Maybe I don’t want to.

“I’ve been hoping to do this again, properly,” she whispers.

“Me too.”

It’s undeniably true, yet it feels dangerous. I slide my palm to the nape of her neck, angling her head gently as I brush another kiss across her lips. Pulling back to make sure we’re not crossing lines, pink splashes her cheeks as she looks up at me through lashes that flutter like butterfly wings. Her freckles scatter across her cheeks like stars and in the glimmer of her eyes, I glimpse the entire universe.

“So you want to?” I repeat to be sure.

“Practice kissing?” Her expression is so sincere, so honest, I risk coming undone for her. One word and the fake could become real. All she’d have to do is say it.

However, I pull my mind back because that wasn’t the agreement. I want to answer differently, but say, “For the Bash, you know, just in case.”

For now, we will practice. We’ll see just how close we can get to the edge without tipping over.

Our lips meet again and the kiss is gentle, reverent even—a promise, not a demand. Her lips are like candy against mine, cautious at first, then responding with a sweetness that makes my heart ache. The kiss isn’t awkward, demanding, or rushed, but a tender exploration, a question and answer all at once.

When we part again, Bailey’s eyes dance with words unspoken, mirroring the same inside me.

“What if we start and we can’t stop?” she asks.

“What if I don’t want to?”

Spotlight: All His Damned Mother's Sons by Tim Kirk

The Colonel always had a plan for Elvis.  They both knew that the draft was unstoppable.  The question was how to handle it.  The Colonel knew that the solution was for Elvis to serve like any other grunt.  And so Elvis did just that, training at Fort Hood in South Carolina, then landing in an US Army base in Friedberg, Germany.  Which is where he dies in an accidental mortar explosion.

It's 1959.

People from all over the world weep. For some, Elvis' death changes their lives forever.

Billy Clover was singing and playing his guitar in a dive bar when Big Sam spotted him.  Lots of ambitious people with lots of money were on the look out for the "Next Elvis."  Big Sam was one of them.  He scooped up Billy and, before he know it, he was racing down Elvis' lost highway.

In Reno, Alvin is a touch kid from a tough family.  He's been keeping it all together by emulating the Elvis he sees in the movies.  Now the King is gone.  Some boys from school have an idea for a quick job that will get them real rich, real quick.  Things go wrong but Alvin doesn't care.  He's learned an important lesson.  He's got a special gift.  He can hurt people and it doesn't bother him.  He changes his name to Sport and he's on his way to work with the LA underworld.

It's only a matter of time before these two collide.

Excerpt

The ballroom is packed wall to wall.  Everyone is cheering.  Swaying back and forth like waves in a bathtub.  A crystal chandelier the size of a VW bug hovers above.  Somewhere up front is a stage with Bobby Kennedy and a microphone.  His nasal voice bounces around and over the cheers and applause.  “Not just a victory in California.  A victory for California!”

Sport figure he’ll be able to spot Tom and, despite the size and milling frenzy of the crowd, he figures right.  Because Tom is so pretty.  He always was, even when he was wearing his football jersey, even with the buzz cut all those boys had in high school.

He’s even prettier now.  At first, Sport thought it was a woman he glimpsed across the room, waving a “Kennedy in 68” sign with his slender, delicate fingers.  Sport pushes his way towards him.  In his jacket pocket, his hand clutches a knife.  He’d planned on getting Tom alone somewhere, having a talk with him like he did with Loren and with Mitch.  But that wasn’t going to work now.  It’d have to be a quick shiv and move on.

He didn’t feel too disappointed.  To be honest, the joy has sort of drained out of the whole thing.  Now, it felt like something he has to do, is happy to get done, but he doesn’t anticipate the satisfaction he had experienced with the other two.

There are still a couple dozen people between him and Tom when Sport hears the shot.  A light crack.  He recognizes the sound – a .22 revolver.

In the momentary shocked hush that follows, he hears a man shouting from the kitchen.  “Get the gun, get the gun” and then “hold him, hold him” and “we don’t want another Oswald.”

Assassination!  The spooked crowd goes wide-eyed and wild, surging this way and that.  Chaos.  A woman in a smart pink dress is pinballed in the roiling mass, shouting for help.  A campaign worker grabs her arm.  “Mrs. Kennedy!  Bobby’s been shot!”  He pulls her towards the kitchen door.

A man bumps Sport hard, exposing his shoulder holster and .38.  The man gawks.

Sport thinks, “oh no, don’t drag me into this!” and runs for the exit.  Mission aborted.  Tom will just have to sweat some more.
