SILVER SPRING, Md., March 31, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Tom F. O'Leary's recent release, The Ruth Bader Ginsburg Coloring Book: A Tribute to the Always Colorful and Often Inspiring Life of the Supreme Court Justice Known as RBG, is an homage to Ginsburg's surprising ascendency to pop culture stardom. According to O'Leary, Ginsburg "has really put a g-is-for-geriatric into girl power, and I wanted to capture some of that in my coloring pages." Unlike the youthful queen bees, riot grrrls, and Manga heroines who have been the usual darlings of contemporary pop feminism and postfeminism, Ginsburg is 83 years old.

The coloring book, which is suitable for adults and kids alike, highlights many of Ginsburg's achievements during her life so far, both as a private woman and as a public champion of women's civil rights. Facing each coloring page is a description of the accomplishment, biographical event, or personality trait depicted.

O'Leary says that when he was creating The Ruth Bader Ginsburg Coloring Book, he aimed to capture the same quirky spirit that the judge herself often displays. "Although publicly Ginsburg absolutely embodies the sober and respectable attitudes and behaviors we expect from a Supreme Court Justice," he says, "her fancy lace jabots, tongue-in-cheek admission of public intoxication, and revelation of potentially embarrassing personal details have all humanized her, and in my opinion are exactly the reason we find her so accessible as a pop culture icon."

Among the coloring pages are illustrations representing:

  • Ginsburg's notoriously scathing judicial dissents while serving on the Supreme Court
  • her championing of female reproductive rights in the 1960s and 1970s
  • her embrace of President Obama after his first speech to Congress in 2009
  • her 56-year love affair with her husband Marty
  • her dozing during Obama's 2015 State of the Union address
  • her performance in full costume as an extra in an opera
  • her poor driving and cooking skills

The Ruth Bader Ginsburg Coloring Book was recently listed by Newsweek as one of "7 Ways to Admire Ruth Bader Ginsburg While Awaiting Her Book Release."

Ginsburg enthusiasts can preview the book and download a free, printable coloring page sample or from the publisher's website. Online shoppers can buy the book on Amazon.
