Spotlight: Tightrope: Balancing Duty with Courage and Conviction by Jennifer Hyland

Jennifer Hyland dedicated twenty-six years to Canadian law enforcement, working major investigations, making high-stakes decisions, and rising to one of the highest ranks in policing. From the outside, her career reflected leadership, achievement, and success. Behind the scenes, the demands and emotional weight of the profession were quietly taking their toll.

In this memoir, Hyland offers an insider account of modern policing, exploring the emotional weight officers carry long after the workday is over. As the demands of the job continue to grow, she confronts PTSD, a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis, and the realization that the profession she had dedicated her life to was asking more than it gave.

Through candid reflection, she explores the pressure to remain strong, the expectations placed on those in leadership, and the personal cost of staying silent. Along the way, she examines the impact the job can have on identity, health, relationships, and the difficult reality that no two people experience trauma or healing in the same way.

Offering a deeply personal perspective, Jennifer Hyland explores resilience, leadership, and the human side of public service.
