Spotlight: Liberation by Lee Schneider
/It is 2053 in New York, and the AI controls that keep Earth livable have failed, plunging the planet into chaos, with flooding, drought, power outages, and
communications failures. Kat Keeper, a startup founder, feels responsible for the chaos, because she financed the AI technology that has broken down. She leads a female-centered rebel group that hopes to pull Earth from the jaws of disaster and prevent a sinister AI-run corporation from seizing total control.
But when her friend and fellow rebel leader Ravven Vaara has what appears to be a nervous breakdown, Kat opts to follow her to San Francisco, where Kat can run but can’t hide from past failures in business and romance. A chance encounter entangles Kat emotionally with Renzo Kundera, an architect who can help the rebel mission of restoring order to Earth, and he also may be the romantic partner Kat has been searching for since her husband died.
Renzo’s jealous twin brother tries to sabotage the budding relationship between Renzo and Kat, and then MIND, the evil AI corporation that seeks total control, has Renzo deported to the Northlands. Kat enlists the help of a former lover to bring Renzo back.
As they struggle to rebuild their relationship, Kat also has her hands full with Ravven, who claims to be in contact with a pod of orcas. It seems outlandish toKat, and she doesn’t believe it at first. But itt urns out to be true, and the highly intelligent whales might hold the key to restoring order on Earth.
In this thrilling science fiction novel, romantic drama collides with pending planetary disaster, and humans may finally learn to communicate with other species who share the Earth.
